Yay! The first illustration for chapter one

James coughed and handed over some pencils. Once Lex had all her things together, she threw her bag over her shoulders to kick at the dirt. Dusting off his instrument, James turned to her and asked, “Is that why you’re here?”
Lex’s foot stopped, frozen above a rock she’d been going to kick.
“Are you here because you’re crazy? Or because you draw crazy things?” he asked again.
Swallowing, the first syllables of her response were weak, giving her an almost childish whine, “Would you-” she cleared her throat, pretending to sound older, stronger, “Would you tell me why you’re here?”
Striking a single chord from the ukulele, he said, “Never”
